Background info on me

Ryan EdmundsI am a print and broadcast journalism student in North Bay, Ontario. I was born only a few hours away in Elliot Lake. So you can imagine how badly I want to have a question and answer format bio right here instead of this. Or how hard it is to resist writing in the third person. Oh well. Here goes. I grew up (some would disagree) in the frigid north of Iroquois Falls Ontario and spent some time living in Strathmore, Alberta and different parts of B.C. with my Dad.

I’ve always been really into music. I’ve played in about a half dozen bands. I’ve also had an acoustic solo project going on in the sidelines, but I don’t really perform with it much.

What about this site

I originally used this blog to rant about local music and stuff like that. I now refer to it as a resume and portfolio in the description but in reality neither one of those are here. As a matter of fact, if any potential employer were to look at this as a representation of my professional skills they would probably never contact me again.

A brief history of Needless Productions.com

  • Feb. 2001 - Needless Productions has its’ first live show. Bands rock out, teethe are knocked in, fun is had.
  • Later that year - More shows are promoted, a free webhosting account on geocities is started and the Needless Newsreel is born.
  • 2005 - After 4 years of promoting live music in the small town of Iroquois Falls, needlessproductions.com is registered to serve as a home base for show info. Almost unconsciously, it is largely used to post info on indie bands.
  • 2006 - Needless Productions evolved into a full time blog, covering Canadian bands and what they are doing. The once clean slate is now getting fuller and bigger.
  • 2007 - I have decided that the music leg of this site is big enough to hold its’ own. The music blog is no longer here. It will be coming back in a new form soon. This blog will now be used as my personal playpen.
