I, however, am looking at different ways of expanding and promoting my blog community on MyBlogLog. The turnout so far has been pleasant within its' limitations. But who knows? I might coe crawling back in the end with a panel of MyBlogLog, Blog Catalog and Gravatar widgets. I do plan to install mybloglog avatars in the comments next. So that will be of some compromise. I agree with both of you on the excitement of the prospect of having it right there and the special feeling bloggers get when they see a new face in the box.

I have to agree with Ciaran. It is kind of a toss-up between possibly losing a few readers because of the lag time or being able to easily contact people that have been hanging around. I have also noticed the lag time that javascript widgets incur but on the other hand I appreciate seeing who is visiting my site. It is a bit of a dilemma for bloggers since the person who decides to move on elsewhere after waiting an eternity for your site to load might well have been the latest loyal reader all us bloggers crave after.
