Halifax schools outlaw dancing

October 11, 2006 |

Its all very ‘Footloose’. And Kevin Bacon gave me the creeps since I was 6. Halifax high schools are cuting out school dances because administrators claim they are becoming “booze-fueled grope-fests”. Now I’m wodering, when the hell was any public event not such a thing? Isn’t that the very reason we humans socialize to begin with?
Now I admit I have been to a very fair share of high school dances. I prefered to dance to a different kind of music at that age. But I can tell you that I was never feuled by anything other than booze! How the hell else do you convince yourself that going to a high school dance will do you any good? The one cool part about this that I can totally side with is the Principals’ belief that other events like live music and stuff don’t have these problems. It would be sweet if high schools all over Canada started adopting the idea of having live bands at school functions.
